The Phoenix Academy – Leaders Forum

THE IDEA
A small group of four to six, carefully chosen and well grounded, business owners and/or corporate executives get together over a long evening meal five times per year to converse, support, share, learn and explore.
THE POTENTIAL
Pushing out the boundaries of personal growth and leadership insights is an ongoing journey of discovery. Time out with a like minded reference group at regular intervals is the key. Experiences can be shared and confidences respected by ‘similar others’. The potential and possibility is enormous.
THE PROCESS
The process will be expertly facilitated and organised to ensure all the variables are in place to build on the initial groundwork and create the environment for a ‘rich’ learning experience.
THE PROCEDURE
Meet early evening at a quality hotel/restaurant and ‘wine and dine’ your way through the evening. We suggest to book into the hotel early in the afternoon/evening and relax. Dress is best casual. Make an evening of it!
THE RULES
There are no rules! We do, however, suggest some boundaries and expectations at the outset which everyone needs to sign off and agree to (e.g. confidentiality, staying overnight, communication best practices).
THE BENEFITS
- Strategy, leadership, transformation are the interwoven themes expected to be on the table at all times.
- Bringing clarity to your own store of experience, knowledge and style.
- Get to know a small group very well over time (rather than the normal superficial acquaintances of larger business groups).
- Real stories from real people with time to listen, explore and develop concepts and relationships.
- The friendship factor from other ‘lonely’ leaders.
- Feedback and advice from those ‘who are there’ – in the trenches right now.
THE NAME
In ancient Academus, near Athens, Plato founded a school for distinguished scholars to learn and have higher order discussions on important matters of life. Hence the term ‘Academy’. The ‘Phoenix’ is the logo of the Academy, a symbol of revival, rebirth, reinvention and renewal. The Phoenix was a brilliant gold-feathered bird from Greek or Egyptian mythology. At the end of its life-cycle, the Phoenix burned itself on a funeral pyre and was re-born out of its ashes, rising again with renewed youth, energy and beauty.

“Sometimes one moment of insight is worth a lifetime of experience”.
“To overcome difficulties is to experience the full delights of existence”.
“To perform at your best, you need to know who you are and why you think and feel the way you do”.
