What are the critical questions you need to address as a business owner / manager?

Sometimes the questions are more important than the answers. A good question gets you thinking.

A great question challenges your very core.

Peter Drucker, one of the greatest management thinkers of all time came up with five classics questions that will give you food for thought.

  1. What is your mission or core purpose? Is it compelling enough and is there collective understanding about it?
  2. Who is your ideal customer? Or do you treat all customers the same?
  3. What do your customers value most? Is there a possibility that the picture in your customers’ heads and your picture are not aligned?
  4. What results are you achieving? All meaningful results come from outside the business
  5. What’s the plan and how do you measure it?

Keeping in mind Einstein’s famous words on metrics:

“Everything that can be counted, does not necessarily count; and everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted”.

Address these questions at both strategic and operational levels in your business.

It is your job as business owner/manager to ensure that your full team are on the same wavelength with regard to these points.

This way you get commitment and buy-in to your ethos and culture and all fighting for the results that best serve your customers.

How well does everyone in your business understand and answer these questions?

Does everyone in your business sing off the same hymn sheet and is everyone in tune with the bigger picture?
